I've mentioned that I have one colleague that is expecting her first baby, and another colleague that is getting married (yes, they are separate people, even though my husband gets confused when I talk about them). Since both of their exciting events are happening in August/September, I was thinking to combine a party for them with our work friends. Our boss agreed, so we are planning an afternoon gathering one weekend.
I saw this fun, modern shower and it became my inspiration. I thought birds would be a good cross over theme, covering both "love birds" and "baby birds." This inspiration party was a baby shower, but has a lot of fun ideas that I think I can use for my Baby/Bridal shower event!
What do you guys think? Any ideas for making these ladies both feel special?

You all know about the girl I work with that is getting married, but I haven't mentioned that my other office mate is pregnant with her first! It's so fun to be around so many people with such exciting changes in their lives!
She has worked in design and architecture for many years, so she has a pretty specific aesthetic– vintage, Brooklyn, and orange (not to mention she ate citrus by the bushel in her first trimester!). She had the idea of an outdoor baby shower with a picnic in Prospect Park in June, so I told her I would put some images together for her.
These would be cute invites and act as a fan at the party as well. Put a map of the park on it, to ensure guests bring it– and won't get lost!
Blankets and pillows strewn across the ground would be so inviting– as long as the mommy-to-be can make it up and down.
And string some lanterns up, to add to the festive look.
To make life easier, pre pack a lunch/snack in box with all of the utensils needed.
Then for dessert or favors, pass out bags of cookies or fruit (maybe oranges!).
Add some bubbles, croquet and bocce ball for a fun filled afternoon for both sexes!
What do you think? Would you want to go to this baby shower?
Until Next Week! xoxo EventLucky
This past Saturday my mom and I threw a baby shower for my sister. She is due on March 31 and is having a little girl, Vivienne Nichole. The venue we chose really inspired a vintage circus theme, so we ran with it.

A friend of ours in Los Angeles is pregnant with a little girl, due this spring. She has taken to calling her little one "poppy." So my mother -in-law, who is throwing her a baby shower, came up with the idea of theming the event around this name. How cute! So I put together some ideas to get her started.
I am loving these invites on Etsy– and they are only for the jpeg. Sure, you have to print them out, but hopefully you can use the design for food labels, etc.
How cute would be it be to make little red poppy pins for everyone to wear? (I also saw some made from cupcake liners).
And this merimekko fabric could make great runners.
I love this poppy dessert table. (This wedding has some cute ideas with the poppy theme! You know I like the pinwheels!)
And these (as poppies, not butterflies, handmade made from red paper,) on a light blue wall (of wrapping paper or tissue paper) could be a great photo wall, or behind the dessert table.
These sweet poppy prints come framed and are only — a quick way to decorate!
Either of these (with poppies) would be cute centerpieces. (source: buckets and full red bowl)
And for favors, here are some coasters or tea towels (C and I might be able to make the tea towels with our new yudu!)
I didn't spend a lot of time on food (I know my mother in law is good at that!), but I thought poppy seed muffins would be cute. And this cake is beautiful– if only the poppies were red!
What do you think? I can't wait to see how the shower turns out!
A Baby Shower Where Dreams and Wishes Do Come True
I recently co-hosted a baby shower for a friend who adopted a baby boy. This friend’s path leading up to the adoption was anything but easy, so when she and her husband finally brought this little bundle home we all sighed a bit of relief knowing their wish had finally come true. My two co-hosts and I decided to host a shower based on a “wishes come true” theme and we wanted to tie in bedtime stories and sweet dreams as well.
For the invitation, we sent Urbanitystudios' Baby Shower Invitation-Bedtime Story:

On the invitation we asked guests to bring their favorite childhood book to add Jasper's library (more on that later)…
We decided to host a sit-down luncheon. Inspired by Hostess with the Mostess’s Bedtime Story Theme, we created one long table that looked like a bed.
We strung tissue puffs from the ceiling to appear as clouds hanging overhead…
At each guests' placesetting, we had little boxes of tea packets with honey sticks. The stickers on the boxes said "Sweet Dreams Little One."
For food we served soup, salad and a "book" cake for dessert.
We didn't play any games but we did ask each guest during lunch to share the book that they brought and why. My co-hostess read the book she brought to start off the discussion. It was called "When wishes come true" and is a story of a little polar bear who gets frustrated when he wishes and his wishes don't come true…His mom tells him that sometimes wishes do come true, as her biggest wish of all happened…she had wished for him. After the book was read, not a dry eye was in the room.
It was a beautiful shower and a wonderful way to all get together and celebrate our friends newest family member.
The first thing to think about when throwing a Baby shower are invitations. You can find some adorable ones at http://www.candybarwrappers.ecrater.com/
Remember to send in plenty of time AND include a phone number to RSVP.
In a previous blog… I have many decoration ideas.
Now some great centerpiece & gift Ideas…
“momma blanket bunny & baby booboo bunnies”
Adorable Center piece on the table AND a great gift for the mother to be. Add some personalized Hershey Kisses or Hershey miniatures around the table too.
Other centerpieces … diaper cakes, Diaper bears etc. can be found here too! www.babycakesnbeyond.ecrater.com
Now Buffet Recipes.
Crock pot dishes are the easiest to start with.
Excellent meatball appitizers:
For time issues… use frozen cocktail size meatballs from the grocery store. Put in the slo cooker while getting the sauce ready. In a pot… empty a can of Jellied cranberries OR a jar of grape jelly. Add a jar of CHILI Sauce (NOT cocktail sauce). Heat till jelly is disolved in with the chili sauce. Pour over meatballs & cook on low.
Little Sausage Wraps.
Get a package or 2 of the “Lil Smokies” sausages. Take a lb of bacon … Cut in 3rds. Open a can of sliced Water Chestnuts. Cut water chestnuts in half. Place one water chestnut on a sausage, wrap in a piece of bacon & secure with a toothpick. Place in a baking pan. Sprinkle Brown sugar on the top. Cover with foil & bake at 350 for about 30 min.
Crab-cream cheese Puffs.
soften cream cheese & whip with mixer… add a bit of garlic & whip. Stir in finely chopped canned crab. Roll out Pillsbury type Cresent dough. I use a glass to cut small rounds… or you can cut smalll squares. Put a tsp or so of cream cheese mixture in the middle… fold over & seal.
brush with an egg/water wash & sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake as directed on the dough package… or till lightly brown. Taste great hot or cooled down.
Shrimp & Cream cheese cracker spread. This is SOOOO easy! Unwrap a block of cream cheese, pour a 1/2 a jar of Cocktail Sauce over the cream cheese block… Drain & dump a can of small salad size shrimp over the cocktail sauce. Add a “fancy” little spread knife & put any crackers you like around the plate.
Chocolate dipped strawberries… or fruits & a veggie tray with ranch dip are always a beautiful addition to the table.
