Ceremonies, Green Weddings, Planning

Wedding planning professionals are receiving more and more requests for eco-friendly weddings from their clientele.  If you purposely choose a destination where the climate tends to be pleasant, the odds are more favorable that an outside wedding could take place without problems.  Everyone present can enjoy the natural beauty of the setting without paper or extra money used on decorations.  If your heart is set on an indoor wedding, an organization called LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certifies spaces as sustainable by their efficient use of earth-friendly energy.  The U. S. Green Building Council’s website should have a list of LEED-certified indoor wedding locations.

Use recycled napkins and table linens, natural products for place cards (such as pressed leaves), and choose beeswax or soy-based candles for your wedding and reception.  If you are really serious about your green stance, request biodegradable plates and utensils–often constructed of potatoes, cornstarch or sugar cane–and have them composted after the reception.
